THE UNHOLY WOMAN

The first Shaman were women in Siberia. The first people to travel to the Spirit World on this earth were women. The role of men was to carve the totems that the individual or village members needed to wear to heal.
These totems were shown to the shaman on her healing journeys. With the arrival of patriarchal religions, Catholicism, Christianity, Buddhism, Muslim, etc. women became relegated to extremes: Virgin/Whore Sinner/Saint Witch/Crone
They took on the roles of nun, midwife, herbalist......not that there is anything wrong with these roles, only that they do not allow the woman to speak directly with the Divine. That is done by Priest, Rabbi, Guru, etc.
Being a young woman is messy business; it involves monthly bleeding. At one time, this too was considered a sacred time,. and women were cared for during their "moon-time", so named because many women menstruated at the time of the full moon.
Then there's that ability of a woman to change her shape in pregnancy and hold another life in her body. The messiness of labor and birth, along with the incredible ability to withstand enduring pain. The body transforms, the breasts that can be the recipients of sexual desire and/or function to feed the baby. What an uncontrollable mysterious, and powerful form of life is a woman.
Today's images of "Women as Healer" are often lacking passion, three dimensionality, and the messiness of life. We are Unholy when we are too angry, too sad, too loud, too quiet, too anything. And many of us have bought into this, both women and men. Who are terrified on some primitive level that they will be eaten, dismembered, or somehow, symbolically castrated by the feminine.
As a Shaman, part of what allows me to be accurate in my work, is the warrior aspect. In everyday life this translates in allowing the full range of my emotional being to exist, and express herself. And makes room to witness the same in others. I do not subscribe to the belief that some feelings are "toxic".
The planet has been suffering ever since the Unholy Woman was born. And she was born out of fear by men. Her connectedness with, as one friend puts it, the "full catastrophe" of life is simply very scary to many men.
Well, my friends, man up. Because the planet needs women in full form.....fully realized in their physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual selves. And we need you to carve the totems again, only now that looks different. We need you to listen to what we know, but cannot speak. To stand behind us and support our power. We need to become the Holy Women again.
And Unholy Women, get up! Get up and try your best to speak your truth, walk your walk, and be your full self. Forget the labels: witch, bitch, saint, sinner, whore, virgin, and on and on.
Love who you are. You are Whole and Holy. Happy Halloween Happy Samhain
Blessings,
Rebecca
